Now that I only have half the socks that I used to have, I'm having to pair them up. This is okay with regard to my school uniform socks as they are all the same. However when it comes to my ordinary socks for everyday use they are all different. Normally this wouldn't matter, but there is nothing about this place that is normal, especially grumpy grandfather.
This afternoon I was destined to help Ivan in the garden, which I like doing. However when I stood up from my lunch I saw Mr Grumpy looking at me.
"What is the matter now?" I asked.
"Well for one thing I don't appreciate you tone of questioning. Secondly, I hope you aren't planning on going out dressed like that! I can't even believe you have the nerve to sit at the dinner table looking like that. But then I shouldn't be surprised." He replied in his best smarmy voice whilst indicating towards my feet.
Then while I pulled up my trouser legs to look at the problem. I'm not sure why I did that as I knew full well what the problem was without needing to look. What is one supposed to do though?
"What am I supposed to do when some thief comes in to my room and thieves half my socks?"
As you can tell I was starting to rise to his bait by now, it's really hard not to.
"Don't ever call me a thief again! No one has stolen anything and nor will they. Your kit is quite safe and will be returned once you resolve the problem you have caused. It's all in your hands. You've got to stop going around accusing people when you yourself is the problem. You have been told what is expected of you, and taught properly how to do everything asked of you, and yet you continually try to cut corners and have this, couldn't care less attitude about you. Not only that, when pulled up about it you blame everyone else but yourself. It really beggars belief how you don't seem able to grasp a simple problem like this - it really does."
I knew better than to argue with him by now, I had leaned that much. As for grasping the simple problem, I think he knew I was on the verge of grasping it by the neck, as at this point he legged it out of the staff room, at the same time ordering me to remove one of the socks as I look ridiculous.
How less ridiculous did I look only wearing one sock?!!!
I did as he said, putting the removed sock in to the pocket of my trousers before going with Ivan in the garden. Where upon I returned the sock to my foot.
